I successfully updated my ThunderPower 610C chargers to firmware version 5.5a using this USB programmer set.
If you’re using Windows7, don’t bother to install the driver downloaded from Thunderpower. When you plug in the device, windows 7 will offer to download a newer driver for you. It works fine.

The programmer interface comes with a resistor that they want installed in the positive line from your power source to the charger. The programmer interface also comes with a ribbon cable that runs from the programmer interface to the factory port on the programmer. It is covered with a sticker that you can peel back. The charger should tell you which firmware version is currently installed as it powers up.
Download the update program, select the new COM port that the driver installed. In my case, it was COM4. Exit the update program. Run the update program again, and it should say that it is communicating. Click on the ‘update’ button, and the program should update your charger for you.
