I was a little skeptical about buying this product when I read all the problems everyone seems to be having with other products, but I figured I could return it. I gave it a try, and it really does works with my iPhone 3g (firmware 3.1.2). I’ve used it with a standard TV and a HDTV, looks great on both. I also tried it with my iPod Touch (firmware 2.2.1) and it works with it as well. I highly recommend this item. I’m also pleased with the service, I received this item within 5 days of ordering.

this product is really cheaply made… When I plugged it into my iphone 3GS, it says “this product is not made for iphone”. When I plug in the USB, it does not work. When I plugged in the RCA plugs into my TV it again did not work.
However… and this is where the cheaply made part comes in, just for fun I plugged the plugs into the wrong ports on the TV, and it started to WORK. The red plug goes into the yellow hole… (AKA Red = video) My last complaint… the iphone plug is extremely difficult to get it out of the phone. It gets stuck.

I was sickened at Apple wanting $49 for a cable to do this. Sound I took a chance with this based on other reviews. Plugged it into my 3GS and into my receiver and it worked right away. Would be nice to have ALL apps, not just video, show up, but oh well. It also has a USB port that will charge the phone as well. I did find that the adapter did not fit as snuggly as it could with the case on my phone, and the video would lose quality and you would get the “Not a valid device” or whatever the error message is. I have not had any problems when I have the case off, so it’s just a matter of a good connection.

I ordered this item with some trepidation after others reported problems, but i got this to output video from the Netflix app, Youtube, photo slideshows and iTunes on an iPhone 4 and iPad 3G without any difficulty at all. It’s a good deal at half the price of the “official” Apple accessory and still lets you charge your device while video is playing.

Although the electronic aspects of this cable hook-up do in fact work, the craftsmanship and quality are poor. The second time I used it the plastic push-in tabs got stuck and have remained that way. I have to wiggle it in and out every time. I would NOt recommend using this product.
