I am an avid user of flash drives ever since the first ones came out and 128mb was the latest and the greatest. I have used many different brands: Lexar, PNY, Kingston, Sandisk & generics brands etc… I am extremely careful with all of my tech devices etc… All I do is carry the flash drive in my pocket and take it out when I need it etc… (I have NEVER washed one in the washing machine!)

I am VERY disappointed with PNY for the poor housing of this particular model. I have other PNY flash drives that have been fine, so the poor quality of this particular model came as a surprise to me.

I purchased the 4gig PNY Mini Attaché because of the looks and because PNY had been very reliable in the past. Unfortunately they dropped the ball on this one. The Mini Attaché did not even last a year! It came apart at the seam so I very carefully super glued it. That did not last. Then it cracked down the middle on the side that has the swivel cover. My only option was to black tape it, or put a heat-shrink sleeve on it to keep it in one piece. I opted for the heat-shrink. All of this just to keep it from falling apart into several different pieces! The actual memory is PNY quality, but the housing is VERY POOR QUALITY CHINA!

I definitely DO NOT recommend anyone purchasing this model. -Purchase anything, but this one.

The 16GB Mini Attache was an impulse buy for me. My old SanDisk 4GB finally died (after a chance encounter in-between my laptop and a chair) so I knew I needed a new one. I had only used SanDisk up until this point, but when I saw the Mini Attache was the same price for the 16GB and was smaller and sleeker, I decided to go with it. It performs beautifully, with great speeds (Vista ReadyBoost capable, something my 4 GB SanDisk was not) and the 16GB drive has so much storage capacity I can’t imagine needing another one for quite some time.

It does not come with the U3 software that the popular SanDisk Cruzer does, however most of the people I know delete that immediately anyway. I was actually a fan of the software, using it to carry Firefox with me wherever I went. However, I have found that the PortableApps platform has been just as easy to use and just as fast and convenient (if not moreso) than U3, so if you are a fan of U3, no worries, PortableApps is freeware and easy to obtain online.

Overall I would highly recommend this drive. Don’t be fooled by some of the mediocre reviews of the old capped Attache drives, this is an altogether different piece of hardware, and well worth your money.

I am reviewing the 16gb PNY (Red).

I strongly discourage anyone from purchasing this product.

As you know with reviews, opinions are just that, and people list their experiences with the product. Sometimes you feel compelled to purchase something, even with reading the pros and cons. Unfortunately, I did not listen to the people who posted that this product was unreliable. I went ahead and purchased this last night, and returned it back to the store this morning.

When I first plugged this into my (brand new Toshiba laptop), my Toshiba found the device and then an icon appeared that said driver successfully installed. I then went to my Media Creator to create my back up operating system – which upon execution said that I needed to format the drive.

So I tried to format the drive (that part is easy, there is a screen that comes up and you can choose “quick format”. So I chose that option and left the room. When I returned, I had an error message, “unable to complete format”. So I pulled out the device (after properly ensuring it was safe to do so). I plugged it back in and went through the same steps. Over and over and over.

Then I decided to plug this into various other ports, just to make sure it is not my port. Still nothing.

So I get on my other laptop and start googling the problem that I was having. Apparently, I am supposed to have a flashing red light on top of this PNY stick when it is performing. I go back into my office, and disconnect and reconnect a few more times. Reboot the computer, try things all over again, and finally I got the Red Flashing Light. The product had finally decided to work.

So I started performing the back up, and when I came back into my office, again, the red light was not flashing and I got an error message, whic said (please make sure disc and drive are connected). Apparently Toshiba knew that this flash drive was not making contact.

After 4 hours of this (still not being able to get the data on to it), I realized that this product was just too unreliable (as several of the reviews out on the internet mentioned). How can I be confident that I can ever retrieve my operating system off of it, if I can’t even get the light to come on more than 2 times, out of over 25 times of plugging it in and removing it.

My husband is now calling this the (PNY)Pain-N-Your A** drive. And to anyone who reads this, please do not purchase this. It is a terrible product.

I went today to Fry’s Electronics and purchased a Corsair 16gb Flash Drive ($44.99). I got home, plugged it in, on the first attempt and started creating a Recovery USB back up for my operating system — The Corsair worked fabulously and effortlessly. In less than 15 seconds I was able to successfully start the Recovery Back Up to the USB, which is what I couldn’t get done in 4 hours last night with the PNY.

    The Corsair Rocks! PNY Not!

The performance is good and the price is reasonable. This drive is compact and folds neatly protecting if from dirt & debris. Another thing I really like is the design allows you to attach it to a key ring.

This flash drive has performed very nicely since I have purchased it. Its speed is comparable to other PNY products I have had in the past and the capacity is ample for what I need it for.
