Product Description
The HOLUX GR-213 Smart GPS Receiver is a total solution GPS receiver, designed based on SiRF Star III Architecture. This positioning application meets strict needs such as car navigation, mapping, surveying, security, agriculture and so on. Only clear view of sky and certain power supply are necessary to the unit. It communicates with other electronic utilities via compatible dual-channel through RS-232 or TTL and saves critical satellite data by built-in backup memory. With low power consumption, the GR-213 tracks up to 20 satellites at a time, re-acquires satellite signals in 100 ms and updates position data every second. Trickle-Power allows the unit operates a fraction of the time and Push-to-Fix permits user to have a quick position fix even though the receiver usually stays off.

I have used five of these now in boat navigation laptops for myself and friends. Very fast lockup, it always has a position before the nav software loads. Very sensitive, while others are having to stick their GPS out side this one is receiving in the cabin. I like the fact it is powered by the USB port and doesn’t need a separate battery.

The holux GR-213-U comes with a fairly long cable and is advertised as water proof. I have not tested this. However, I did break this thing apart to mod inside a netbook. I couldnt get reception there. I removed it.. soldered a new usb cable to it and then electric taped all over it.. Now it plugs into a regular sized usb again and works perfectly! Picks up a precise location in seconds on a warm start or half a minute from a cold start. Comes with monitoring software which gives coordinates, altitude, time, date, and much more I dont need to use. Works with other mapping software.
This thing has an internal battery and memory. If you use it often it will remember satellite data and pick up signals on the double. Truely awesome. Very small. Should be cheap.
